Masquerade is a group exhibition of award-winning contemporary artists
who play with the medium of photographic portraiture.
Exhibition Dates 9th – 31st August 11am – 7pm daily (except Sunday)
Masquerade will feature work by Jonny Briggs, Anne Collier, Emma Critchley, Virgilio Ferreira, Aneta Grzeszykowska, Annalie Grabey, Alison Jackson, Minhong Pyo, and John Stezaker.
Photographic portraits traditionally carry weight as factual documents recording memories with the image acting as a symbol of personal, historical, ethnographic or cultural truth. The reality is far more complicated and the artists in this exhibition use the camera to subvert the portrait to convey highly personal, complex messages.
This exhibition is an extension of an exhibition shown earlier this year at 44AD gallery in Bath, curated by Martin Jenner of High House Gallery, Oxon (www.highhousegallery.com)and brings to North Devon work from a varied group of national and international artists.
